It was probably 25 years ago that I first saw a print of N.C. Wyeth’s painting “The Giant”. I love the massive scale he put to the scene, even apart from the actual giant. He painted those evening clouds just towering over the earth. Ever since then I’ve wanted to paint clouds like that. The tops catching the last bit of warm sunlight, with a host of gradients making their way to the darker horizon. So much happening. Brilliance and subtlety at the same time. Some of God’s best canvases are clouds at sunset.
